Lara Kramer – Fragments

Lara Kramer is an Independent Choreographer and Interpreter based out of Montreal whose work is inspired by her Aboriginal roots.
She received her BFA in Contemporary Dance at Concordia University, Montréal, in 2008 where she was honored the James Saya Memorial Bursary for Excellence. She has trained abroad in Vienna, Finland and NYC, with the opportunity to participate in choreographic research projects.
She has danced for Rosy Simas, Veronique Gaudreau, Lucie Grégoire, Gaetan Gingras , Heddy Maalem and Yves Sioui Durand.
Since 2006 her work has appeared in the Montréal Fringe Festival (2006 & 2007), Art Matters Festival (2008), Studio 303 (2008 & 2009), the OFF T.A. (2008)and La Sala Rosa (2008). For her creation Fragments, Lara was a part of the artistic residency program from both the Indian Residential School Museum of Canada, Manitoba and the Gesû Centre de Créativité, Montreal, as well a recipient of a bursary from Canada Council for the Arts, and “Jeunes Volontaires” program of Emploi Québec. Fragments premiered on June 11th (2009) the anniversary of Steven Harper’s apology to the survivors of the Indian Residential Schools of Canada, co-presented with The First Peoples Festival and Le Gesû, Centre de Créativité in Montreal. It has since shown as part of New Winds, a Manitowapan Production in collaboration with the M.A.I. (Montreal arts intercultural) (2010), Festival Vue sur la Reléve (2010), Talking Sticks Festival (2011), Canada Dance Festival (2011) and at The Banff Centre (2011). Lara has also worked in collaboration with Maria Mora Alcolea of Brussels for the creation of The Lake (2010) under the guidance of Frey Faust in Finland. Lara was granted a Mentorship Project with Catherine Tardiff and Circuit-Est, as well as a Creation Residency with Usine C in support of her new creation of good moral character (2011). She has taught in Vancouver and at the Banff Centre for the Indigenous Dance Residency Summer Program (2011). Most recently Lara became an international partner of Untitled|Collective a NYC based Establishment.
